Ivon Moore-Brabazon, 3rd Baron Brabazon of Tara

Lord Brabazon was born on December 20th 1946 and like his father and grandfather before him, attended Harrow School. After leaving school, Lord Brabazon went on to spend time working in the freight industry.
After the death of his father, Lord Brabazon took his seat as a Conservative member of the House of Lords and from 1984 to 1986 was a House of Lords whip in Margaret Thatcher’s Government. He then went on to become a Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department of Transport, holding his post until 1989.
Lord Brabazon was then made a Minister of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. In 1990, Lord Brabazon returned to the Department of Transport as Minister of State, holding the position until he left office at the 1992 general election.
In 2001, he was elected Principal Deputy Chairman of Committees, and as a result resigned the Conservative whip and became a non-affiliated member of the House of Lords. This Means that he was not associated with any party or with the Crossbench group in the House of Lords.
He was Chairman of Committees from 2002 to 2012, at which point he retook the Conservative whip. Lord Brabazon is a Deputy Lieutenant of the Isle of Wight, married and has two children. The heir to the Barony is Lord Brabazon’s son the Hon. Benjamin Moore-Brabazon who was born on the 15th March 1983.
The title of Baron Brabazon of Tara, of Sandwich in the County of Kent, was created in 1942 for Conservative Politician and aviation pioneer John Moore-Brabazon. Moore-Brabazon was a descendant through a female line of Edward Brabazon, 7th Earl of Meath. His father Major John Moore assumed the additional surname of Brabazon in 1866 by Royal license.
