Holding an earldom created in 1453, the year the Eastern Roman Empire fell to the Ottoman Turks, Lord Erroll also holds of the subsidiary titles of Lord Hay and Lord Slains. He is also Lord High Constable of Scotland and Chief of Clan Hay.
Following an education at both Eton College and Trinity College, Cambridge, Lord Erroll took up commission in the Atholl Highlanders, a regiment which is not part of the British Army but the private army of the Duke of Atholl.
After serving in the Territorial Army from 1975 to 1990, Lord Erroll was made Honorary Colonel of the Royal Military Police, which he held until 1997.
More recently, he has become a pioneer in the electronic banking and business, currently president, chairman and director of ‘E-RADAR’, ‘EURIM’ and ‘Lasseo’, respectively.
